After suffering ridiculous amounts of
punctures, and some fairly rapid tyre wear on the tyres I was using
previously, the brand of which I will keep to myself. I have been asked
by Howard to try out a pair of the new Kenda Kriterium Endurance tyres.
I can honestly say that they have been a pleasant surprise.
Firstly, before even fitting them, I
weighed them against the tyres I had been using. Surprise, surprise,
they weighed ( 280g ) exactly the same as the old (name brand) ones.
Both tyres fitted up as they should, no drama’s there. Time for the
first ride. Another surprise ! I could barely tell the difference
between them, in the way they felt, and rolled on the road. They are not
noisy, have ample grip for fast cornering, and best of all, I have not
suffered a single puncture in the 3 months and almost 1000km’s since I
fitted them. Wear rate is excellent at this stage, with no noticeable
wear, even through the centreline of the tyre.
The secret with these tyres is Kenda’s
“Iron Cloak” technology. This means the tyre is full encased in Kevlar.
This makes the tyre very puncture resistant, but with Kenda’s “Iron
Cloak” (unlike other brands of tyres) it only adds about 30 grams to the
weight of the tyre.
So if you are looking for a reasonably
light weight, fast rolling tyre with excellent puncture resistance and
good wear characteristics, check out the new Kriterium Endurance from
Kenda.
