We think that buying your next bike is a pretty important decision and one that needs to be made with all the relevant information available. To ensure that we can give you the best service possible we don't sell bikes over the net.  The most important thing to us is that you get the bike that will suit you perfectly. Only this way can we guarantee that you will love your new bike.

The correct model, the correct size, and the right colour are all important considerations to make, and the only way that this can happen is by talking to you face to face.

For this very reason we will not sell bikes over the Internet to distant parts of the universe. By all means window shop over the Internet but when it comes time to buy, we want to ensure you get the perfect bike, so we need to talk to you in person.

We will then discuss your needs, your expectations, your budget and then fit you up on your bike, to ensure you make your best purchase ever. This is how we can give you our special warrantee* that is exclusive to Pro-Am Cyclery customers.

"If within 14 days you don't believe your purchase was the best purchase you ever made we will be very surprised... So surprised in fact, that we will happily refund your money in full. And give you an extra $20 for your trouble."

To assist with this we have developed the following 10 point checklist to assist you to make the right decision when you buy your new bike.

The first thing to do is to make sure the bike you buy is the right size for you. Bikes just like people come in different sizes. You should always buy a bike from a shop where you can be sized up accurately.

The general rule of thumb for buying the correct size bike is to make sure that you can stand over the frame with both feet on the ground and you are able to touch the pedals with a slight bend in the leg when sitting on the saddle.

Buying the wrong size bike makes cycling uncomfortable and can be downright dangerous as well.

Look at the bike before you buy it. Has it been assembled carefully or has it simply been lifted out of the packing carton, had the handle bars straightened and the tyres inflated and that’s all.

When a cycle shop gets a bike from the factory they are 75% assembled. Shops have two choices: build the bike as quickly as possible or spend a little more care and build it carefully and precisely to ensure years of trouble free cycling and enjoyment.

So how do you know if a bike has been assembled carefully? Here is a tip for you.

"Look carefully at the gear and brake cables. Have they been carefully trimmed down to the exact length and lubricated inside or do they stick out from the handle bars towards the front of the bike?"

Let me tell you, most bikes have not had this done and the difference just this little point makes to your cycling enjoyment and safety is enormous.

Always buy a bike with a full manufactures warrantee. Did you know all our bikes come with a full Lifetime Warrantee? That is…."whilst you own the bike from new the frame and the parts are guaranteed forever."

4.gif (2182 bytes)

You should buy a bike at least two levels above the quality to what you think you need. In that way you will not be disappointed in the performance or the quality of your bike.

Ensure the shop you buy from runs regular maintenance classes or workshops for you. Ask them if they do before you buy. Only this way will you know the best way to look after your new bike.

Believe me, there is nothing worse than having to walk your bike home because you don’t know how to make a simple adjustment to it. By the way, our classes are on the first Saturday of the month at 4pm…. What’s more they are free!

Don’t forget you may need to purchase some accessories for your bike as well. An Australian Standards Approved helmet is mandatory for all cycling in Queensland. Also don’t forget about things like pumps, water bottles, lights if you plan to cycle at night, chain lube etc.

At Avantiplus North Brisbane we sell bonus packs with your bike. These contain things that you will need with your new bike. Choose from a set or pack, and believe me, they are great value for money. So check these out when you are buying your bike.

Don’t forget that your bicycle just like a car needs periodic servicing. Here at Avantiplus North Brisbane your bike comes with a free 1st service after 6 weeks. After that your bike will need to be looked at every 6 to 12 months to keep it in tip top condition.

Make sure that when you buy your helmet that it fits correctly. It is imperative for your comfort and safety that your helmet is secure on your head. It should fit firmly but not too tightly. Make sure that all the 4 straps are tight and not flapping around in the wind. If the straps at the front are loose then the helmet will fall of the back of your head if you do have a fall. Try on a few helmets before you take one home because you will be amazed at how they all feel different. Also remember the motto, "If you have a $10 head buy a $10 helmet."
